  • We, the People of Colorado, with profound reverence for the Supreme Ruler of the Universe, in order to form a more independent and perfect government; establish justice; insure tranquility; provide for the common defense; promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the "State of Colorado."

  • The General Assembly shall, as soon as practicable, provide for the establishment and maintenance of a thorough and uniform system of free public schools throughout the State, wherein all residents of the State between the ages of six and twenty-one years may be educated gratuitously.

  • No person having conscientious scruples against bearing arms shall be compelled to do militia duty in time of peace; provided, such person shall pay an equivalent for such exemption.

  • The General Assembly shall prohibit by law the importation into the State, for the purpose of sale, of any spurious, poisonous or drugged spiritous liquors...

  • That the right of no person to keep and bear arms in defense of his home, person and property, or in aid of the civil power when thereto legally summoned, shall be called in question; ...

  • That the free exercise and enjoyment of religious profession and worship, without discrimination, shall forever hereafter be guaranteed; ...
